Business Requirement
When the Egyptian market needed a stimulus to attract more Internet users, Telecom Egypt worked closely with government legislators and ISPs to introduce subscription-free Internet access. To support free usage, the operator needed to find a way to generate revenues from the service. The solution was through intercarrier billing, which would allow Telecom Egypt to charge the ISPs for using its network and facilities to support Internet calls. The existing interconnect system did not have the capability to support the complexities of the revenue-sharing model - hence the operator’s approach to Intec.
Solution
InterconnecT offered best-of-breed, easily configurable solution that could be customised to support Telecom Egypt’s plans for ISP billing and overall internet expansion. A mediation solution was also needed to support the InterconnecT platform, to automate the data collection process for billing and support new kinds and sizes of network data. Intec’s Inter-mediatE was deployed and, through effective real-time mediation, it seamlessly collects and processes data from the operator’s numerous network exchanges, transforming it into simple and valid billing information for the InterconnecT system to use.
