Intec Telecom Systems, a world leader in Operations Support Systems (OSS) for telecom companies, has announced that Digicel, Jamaica's first GSM service provider, has extended its InterconnecT licensing agreement to support the company's expansion into the Caribbean islands.

The contract is valued at over half a million pounds sterling. Intec's Interconnect solution, the world leader in domestic and international inter-carrier billing, has provided Digicel with flexible settlement capabilities since the launch of its Jamaican GSM operations in 2001.

"InterconnecT has the product maturity we need to manage our expansion in the Caribbean," explains Earl Manning, Digicel's Director of Information Technology. "Its proven technology will ensure that we have the flexibility to support new inter-carrier partnership agreements while minimising installation cost and time."

Digicel is the second Caribbean operator to extend its InterconnecT license this year. Cable & Wireless West Indies signed an agreement with Intec in February 2002 to roll out the software into 14 islands in the region. InterconnecT's success can be explained by its internationally-verified technology, superior scalability in dealing with growing volumes of traffic, and high levels of billing accuracy. Companies such as Digicel can accurately charge other inter-exchange and local exchange carriers for using its facilities while automatically reconciling its own invoices with their incoming bills. The solution also minimises operational overhead in settling with other carriers.

"This agreement supports the drive by Digicel to establish a strategic revenue assurance plan," says Kevin Adams, Intec's CEO. "The company has already enjoyed Intec's billing efficiency in Jamaica and we are confident that the same standard of excellence will be achieved when Digicel creates its pan-Caribbean GSM network."
